Trong Lễ Tưởng Niệm Memorial Day 2012 tại Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Cô Lâm Ngọc Anh-ThưGood Afternoon ladies and gentlemen and thank you for joining me today as we recognize our veterans for their unwavering service to America.

Today is the day we reflect on the blessings of our liberty that we have been granted. Let us never forget that we cannot rightfully celebrate the joy of our freedom without remembering the great price paid for that freedom.

Although Memorial Day is celebrated once a year, America’s veterans and current servicemen and women are always close at heart.

To all our veterans, we have a simple yet heartfelt message: thank you. Thank you for your unwavering service in peacetime and war, here in this nation and throughout the world.

For all veterans, regardless of their service and the era in which they have served, they have paid the price time and time again. They have defended America through both the best and worst of times and they have performed their duties tirelessly often with not enough recognition.

While we pay homage to all American Veterans, I particularly want to thank our Vietnam veterans this afternoon. They have served in a war that deeply divided our nation.

After the Vietnam War, the lives of the Vietnam veterans have not been easy. Although it has taken a long time, people are becoming more aware of the sacrifices made. Almost forty years after the end of the war, we can look through a clear lens and see the sacrifices made by many, sacrifices, which we may never be able to fully understand. However, we do know that without the support from the United States, we, the Vietnamese community in America, would not have what we have today. Those who we are commemorating today served as the protectors of our freedom and were our bridge to a better life in a nation whose foundation preserves our unalienable rights.

I believe I speak for the families and loved ones of those who made it home and for the families and loved ones of those who did not make it home that the sacrifices made by all of the military personnel who served in Vietnam may not have been glorified; however, your presence was and continues to be held most dear by those for whom you fought and by their families and loved ones.

To close, it is a great privilege to have been selected to speak before you today. It is the least that I can do for those who have dedicated their entire lives to the service. Thank you all once again for being here this afternoon and for giving me this opportunity to honor our veterans.

May God Bless you, our soldiers and veterans, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.

Lam Ngoc Anh-Thu
